Preparing Your Household Items

Make sure to guard your household goods against damage that could cause a fire, explosion or leakage. Such as dispose of flammables: fireworks, cleaning fluids, matches, acids, chemistry sets, aerosol cans, ammunition, etc.
Drain fuel from your lawn mower and other machinery. Discard cans of oil, paint, thinner or any other substances that may leak. Any refillable tanks you have, must be purged and sealed by a local propane gas dealer.
Avoid waxing or oiling wooden antiques before moving because some products may soften the wood, making it vulnerable to imprinting from furniture pads.

Moving Tips—Local Move

Each move is special, with unique elements and requirements. Southwest Moving considers each move differently; dates, times, elevators, and stairs are all integrated into the final plan. The following basic services can be done separate, or in combination.

Moving Tips Your move will be priced and scheduled either in person with an on-site estimate or made by phone, fax, or e-mail. A local move, in most cases, is a move done from city to city within a State or in 100-mile radius. All local moves are regulated by your states Department of Transportation. All charges on local moving are by the hour. In certain cases, firm pricing can be done.

Moving Tips—Long Distance Move

A Van Line is a national company with a network of local agents. The company establishes certain operating standards, coordination of services and training for its agents in different states. In some cases the agent you contacted is a booking agent, who assigns the job to a different moving company. This is not the case with Southwest Moving & Relocation. Here you are dealing directly with your moving company, we will handle your move from start to finish, with only the best service. Not only will we provide you with a free estimate, we will also plan your move with you each step of the way.

Long distance and commercial move charges are based mainly on the weight of your shipment and the distance they need to be moved. Also discount pricing is available.

Helpful Hints

Refrigerators
Defrost and thoroughly dry your refrigerator! (this is important). After defrosting, the doors should be left open several hours to air dry. All pans, trays, crispers, shelves or removable parts should be removed and wrapped separately.
Stoves
Your stove must be disconnected prior to pickup. Be sure gas lines are shut off tight and capped. For electric ranges, if the coils are loose, they must be removed together with griddles, deep fryers and removable parts, then packed separately.
Freezers
One or two days prior to moving, your freezer must be defrosted! To avoid musty odor, they should be dried and aired out. It is best to empty your freezer and plan meals that will use up perishable contents.
Television Sets
Television antennas should be removed from rooftops and disassembled. Some color TV's must be serviced both before and after moving.
Washers
Motors should be checked and secured, tumbler action protected and fastened in place. Automatic washers must be serviced by an authorized service man.
